Public Forum by Nanyang Centre for Public Administration

Nanyang Centre for Public Administration (NCPA) of Nanyang Technological University (NTU) will host a public forum, jointly organized with the Lianhe Zaobao, titled Policies and Practices of Eldercare System—Perspectives from China and Singapore, on 26 March 2018 (Venue: Auditorium 302, NTU@One-North campus; Time:  2:30-4:30 pm).

Population ageing is poised to become one of the most significant social transformations of the twenty-first century, with implications for nearly all countries and all sectors of society. Due to their increasing life expectancy and decreasing total fertility rate in the recent decades, both China and Singapore have particularly faced serious challenge posed by their rapid population ageing. How the two countries have tackled the problems associated with the challenge needs to be examined.

Professor Du Peng (Vice President of Renmin University of China and the Director of Gerontology Research Institute) will deliver a speech on “Challenges, Policies and Practices of China’s Eldercare System”.

Ms Tin Pei Ling, a Member of Parliament in Singapore, and Professor Miao Chunyan, the founding Director of the joint NTU-UBC Research Centre of Excellence in Active Living for the Elderly, will join Professor Du Peng for a roundtable discussion to compare eldercare policies and practices in Singapore and China.

Professor Liu Hong, Director of NCPA and Chair of School of Social Sciences of NTU will serve as the forum chairperson.
