NCPA Alumni Give Back to Their Alma Mater during COVID-19

Published on: 16-May-2020

NCPA's Master of Science in Managerial Economics (MME) Class of 2019 alumnus Mr Geng Xiao made a personal donation of 26,000 surgical masks to NTU in May 2020.

Upon learning about the increase in COVID-19 cases in Singapore, Mr Geng quickly contacted NCPA Director Professor Liu Hong and Deputy Director Dr Dai Shiyan about his intention to donate surgical masks to NTU.  However, shipping large quantities of masks and other healthcare supplies to Singapore is no mean feat as the shipment requires quite a few formalities and proper authorisation before it can be brought into Singapore. After nearly a month of hard work, 26,000 masks were finally delivered to NTU.

Apart from Mr Geng, many other NCPA alumni also expressed their concerns over their alma mater through NTU's alumni associations across China. The Beijing Alumni Association and Guangxi Alumni Association acted immediately after receiving mask donation requests from the University. Because of the restrictions on the import of masks, each alumnus can only send 100 pieces of masks to Singapore. While the process was laborious, it did not stop the alumni from wanting to do their bit for their alma mater and they managed to send a total of 50,000 masks to NTU.

NCPA deeply appreciates our alumni for reaching out, giving back, and showing an outpour of support to their alma mater.
