Asia Governance and Public Administration

In the ongoing quest to promote good governance and public services, this cluster of research focuses on inter-disciplinary research areas that cut across social sciences and public administration that impact on international and global scale, particularly through a comparative perspective between Asia and other parts of the world.

Emerging Governance Model in Asia

This research area studies the shift in power from West to East, taking place in the geo-political domain and focuses on the emerging governance model in Asia as an alternative to the conventional Western governance models.

Comparative Studies on Governance and Public Administration

This research takes a comparative development perspective to examine governance, public administration, talent strategies, industrial and economic development of different countries in Asia. Topics include but not limited to talent strategies; policy experimentation; innovation and technology in policy making; water governance; whole-of-government collaboration; network governance; local governance; labour laws and wages etc.


Lien International Conference on Good Governance

The Lien international conference on Good Governance is NCPA’s flagship event jointly organized by the Nanyang Centre for Public Administration (NCPA) from the Nanyang Technological University (NTU), American Society for Public Administration (ASPA) and International Institute of Administrative Sciences (IIAS). The conference held biennially in Singapore has featured leading international speakers and scholars such as Professor Yu Keping, Professor Geert Bouckaert, Professor Chris Alden, Professor Jack Knott, Professor Maria Arisgueta, Honourable Janice Lachance, Professor Andrew Massey etc, gathers local and international academics, practitioners and researchers to examine major issues in governance, public service delivery and evaluation, especially from cross-country comparative.


Seminars and Speakers’ Series

NCPA also organizes seminars, forums and speakers’ series to provide platforms for exchanges between students, academics and practitioners. Several of these seminars combine multiple disciplines, perspectives to engage both scholars and policymakers to deliberate issues and bridge research and practice. The International workshop on Social Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Public policy held in December 2016 was a collaboration with the University of Birmingham and Social Innovation Park which brought together universities, think tanks and social enterprises on a single platform to discuss issues pertaining to creating a conducive ecosystem for nurturing innovation and entrepreneurship through policies.

The NCPA distinguished Speaker Series features distinguished leading experts in the field to address theoretical discourse on Public Administration and provide timely observations and analyses. At the inaugural session in August 2017, Professor Justin Lin, the former Chief Economist and Senior Vice President of the World Bank (2008 to 2012) was invited to deliver a speech on “China’s Rise and Implications for Developing World and Economics”.​
